Hace unas semanas fue la carrera número 17 de Imagen en Monterrey, no es fácil correr casi 1 hora disfrazado


The 17th edition of the road race Imagen 10k Monterrey took place a few weeks ago, it not that easy to run almost an hour in costume

Going Green

Today the Mexican National Soccer Team will play against Canada looking to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The game won't be played here, but the photo is from the last time they did so. Notice how much of the people wears green to support the Team.

In the Mexican Flag the green stands for the hope,  and maybe that's why it was chosen as the main jersey.


Hoy la Selección Mexicana de Futbol va a jugar contra Canadá buscando calificar al Mundial Sudáfrica 2010.

El juego no se jugará aquí, pero la foto es de la última vez que lo hicieron. Fíjense como la mayoría de la gente va de verde para apoyar al equipo.

En la Bandera Mexicana el verde significa esperanza, y talvez por eso lo escogieron para ser el color de la camisa principal.

Theme Day: Sister Cities

Today's Theme Day is Sister Cities, meaning that the post should be from a Sister City. Monterrey has a plenty to choose from, such as Barcelona (Spain), Hamilton (Canada), Medellín (Colombia), Rosario (Argentina), Orlando (Florida) and Corpus Christi, San Antonio and Dallas (all in Texas), among many others.

This photo is from Dallas, it was taken inside Texas Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys. Two facts about the team:

• The season starts next week, which will be the last season playing at this stadium (Check the new impressing stadium here).
  
• Is the 2nd most valuable sports franchise in the World according to Forbes, valued at 1.5 billion USD. It follows only Manchester United and its followed by NY Yankees and Real Madrid.

El Tema del Día es Ciudades Hermanas, buscando que poner una foto de una Ciudad hermana. Monterrey tiene muchas opciones como: Barcelona (España), Hamilton (Canada), Medellín (Colombia), Rosario (Argentina), Orlando (Florida) y Corpus Christi, San Antonio y Dallas (todas en Texas) entre otras.

Another Chapter of the Rivalry

Yesterday I wrote about the rivalry between Monterrey and Mexico City. This week was the Mexican Baseball League Final Series between... you guess it! Monterrey (Sultanes) and Mexico City (Red Devils).

Maybe this is the most historied baseball rivalry in Mexico, akin to the Red Sox - Yankees in the USA or Real Madrid - Barcelona in Spain's soccer. The teams of two of the country's biggest cities playing for a championship.



Ayer escribí sobre la rivalidad entre Monterrey y la Ciudad de México. Esta semana fue la Serie Final de la Liga Mexicana de Beisbol entre... ¡adivinaron! Monterrey (Sultanes) y la Ciudad de México (Diablos Rojos).

Talvez esta sea la rivalidad histórica del beisbol mexicano, comparada con Medias Rojas - Yankees en los Estados Unidos o Real Madrid - Barcelona en el Futbol Español. Los equipos de dos de las principales ciudades peleando por el campeonato.

Waiting for the Pitch

Monterrey's baseball team (called Sultanes) is a win away of defending their championship at the Baseball's Mexican League Final Series, which would be the third consecutive.

It might be against the same team for also the third consecutive year, the Yucatan's Leones (Lions), which needs to win 2 out of 3 games to reach the finals.

This was taken a couple of nights ago at Estadio Monterrey in the game against the Monclova Acereros (Steelers).



El equipo de beisbol de Monterrey (Sultanes) está a un partido de defender su campeonato en la Serie Final de la Liga Mexicana de Beisbol, que sería su tercera consecutiva.

Puede ser contra el mismo equipo por tercera vez seguida, los Leones de Yucatán quienes necesitan ganar 2 de 3 para pasar.

Esta foto fue tomada en el Estadio Monterrey en el juego contra los Acereros de Monclova hace un par de días.

Junior Mexico Olympics

Today the Olympics Games begin in Beijing, so this is the closet match that I found here in the City.

This is the logo from the Junior Mexican Olympics that were hosted a couple of months ago in Monterrey.

The big red part is the map of the State and inside of it are the little logos from all the sports that were part of the event. Monterrey is located close to the volleyball logo in the middle left part.


Hoy comienzan los Juegos Olímpicos de Beijing, así que aquí está lo más cercano que encontré en la Ciudad.

Este es el logo de la Olimpiada Juvenil Mexicana que tuvo lugar hace un parte de meses en Monterrey.

La parte roja es el mapa del Estado y dentro de él hay pequeños logos de todos los deportes que fueron parte del evento. Monterrey se encuentra cerca del logo de voleibol al centro en la parte izquierda.

Smile!!! - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 3.3

After receiving their medals and listening to the Gold Medal's Country National Anthem, the 3 winners would pose for the cameras of the reporters, and a couple of fans with regular cameras. Here are competitors from Russia (silver), Poland (gold) and France (bronze) showing their prize for the 1500m free style.

Después de recibir sus medallas y escuchar el Himno Nacional del ganador de la Medalla de Oro, los 3 ganadores posaron para las cámaras de los reporteros, y algunos aficionados con sus cámaras normales. The Complete Stage - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 3.1

Made for TV - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 2.3

This is the moment when Natsuki Akiyama, from Japan, was announced as the winner of the  Gold Medal for the Female 100 m Fly.  The Medal came along with a flower bouquet (in the black pillow) and the cheering from the crowd (not pictured)... but at least you can see her waving back :)

Este es el momento donde Natsuki Akiyama, de Japón, fue anunciada como la ganadora de la Medalla de Oro de los 100 m Mariposa Femenil. La Medalla fue entregada junto a un ramo de flores (en la almohadilla negra) y los aplausos del público (esos no están en la foto)... pero al menos la pueden ver saludando de vuelta  :)

Turning Around - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 2.2

There were some tight races (or should it be swims?) like this one, were these two were head to head the whole time. Here they are as they were completing a lap and going for another one.

Getting Loose - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 2.1

This is just before the start of the 50 meters Breast Final. You can see how each one prepares in a different way, some jump, some move their arms a little and some others just stare at the goal line to focus.

Esta es justo antes del inicio de la Final de los 50 metros Pecho. Pueden ver como cada quien se prepara diferente, algunos saltan, otros mueven un poco sus brazos y algunos simplemente se quedan viendo a la meta para concentrarse.

Cheering from the Stands - World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 1.3

I'm not sure that they were more than the others, but surely the Polish (red shirts) and Russian (behind in blue and with the flag) were the noisiest! Most of them were relatives or other swimmers that were supporting their fellow swimmers in their competences

No creo que fueran más, ¡pero seguro los Polacos (de rojo) y Rusos (de azul y con la bandera) fueron los más ruidosos! La mayoría de ellos eran parientes u otros competidores que apoyaron a sus compañeros en sus competencias.

World Junior Swimming Championship - Series 1.1

This is the building where the competition took place. It's part of the University of Nuevo Leon (UANL) .

As I commented a few days ago, the Mexican Football (Soccer) Team played here the first qualification match for the 2010 worldcup.

Wear Green

Last Saturday the Mexican National Football Team played in the City. Unfortunately I haven't had Internet access to upload new pictures for over a month now, so this is the best I could get you from my previous pictures.

This is a display from when the new jersey was introduced.


El Sábado pasado la Selección Mexicana de Futbol jugó en la Ciudad. Lamentablemente no he tenido acceso a internet para subir nuevas fotos por más de un mes, así que esta fué la mejor que pude encontrar en mi archivo.

Today is Father's Day in Mexico, and  I think most of the world too, so to every Dad out there have a great day!!

Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame - Part 6

This is memorabilia from the Little Giants, which was the first international team to win the Little League World Series in 1957. They were a team from Monterrey and most of the then under 12 kids were born here.

They won the championship with a perfect game by Angel Macías. Here is their story by the Major League Baseball website.

A movie with their story was made, known as "Little Giants" in the box office or "How tall is a Giant?" when it was shown on TV, this movie featured the acting of the manager and some of the original players; another movie is in the works for the near future.

Taken inside the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame, located in the Gardes of Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc (Brewery).

Estos son recuerdos de los Pequeños Gigantes, que fue el primer equipo internacional en ganar la Serie Mundial de Ligas Pequeñas en 1956. Era un equipo de Monterrey y la mayoría de los entonces menores de 12 años eran de aquí.

Ganaron el campeonato con un juego perfecto del pitcher Angel Macías.

Se hizo una película con su historia llamada "Pequeños Gigantes" donde actuaron el manager y algunos de los jugadores del equipo; otra se está grabando para salir proximamente.


Tomada en el Salón de la Fama del Beisbol Profesional de México, que está en los jardines de Cervecería Cuauhtémoc.
