Here is another publisher's stand. In the background you can see the stand from UNAM , which is the oldest and biggest in Latin America (and maybe one of the biggest in the world). It has nearly 300,000 students.


Después de algunos días, aquí hay más fotos de lectores.

Este es el stand de otra editorial. Atrás se vé el stand de la UNAM , que es la universidad más antigua y grande de Latinoamérica (y tal vez una de las más grandes del mundo). Tiene cerca de 300,000 estudiantes.

Day of the Dead or All Saints Day 1.2

This is another of the views from dead on the Day of the Dead.

Other part of the tradition is to put up altars to relatives or famous people that are no longer with us. They are decorated with photos, flowers and candy as a memorial for them.

You can even see some of these figures, such as a bride or a mariachi.



Esta es otra de las representaciones de los muertos en el día de los Muertos.

Otra parte de la tradición es la de montar altares a los familiares o famosos que ya no están con nosotros. Son decorados con fotos, flores y dulces como tributo a ellos.

Incluso pueden ver figuras como estas, como una novia o un mariachi.

Here is one of the most distinctive Mexican Traditions: the Day of the Dead (Nov 2nd).

In this day people takes a more relaxed view on all dead related themes, as you can see in this banner in  which  way  death is represented.


Esta es una de las tradiciones más distintivas de México: el Día de Muertos (2 de Nov).

En este día la gente tiene una visión más relajada de todo lo relacionado con la muerte, como pueden ver en la forma en que la muerte está representada en esta foto.

This is tradition that came from the US (and marketing).

Although is really more celebrated in the north of  Mexico than the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead, mainly because of the economic profit that comes from it.

These are made out of clay, ready to put a candle inside of them.

Aunque es realmente más festejada en el norte de México que la tradición Mexicana del Día de Muertos, principalmente por las ventas que se generan.

Even foreign companies like American Airlines celebrate the Mexican Independence.

This is from an American Airlines ticket counter. They even changed the colors to match the ones from the National Flag.

Here is the entrance of the walk-only street of Morelos.

It was decorated with a bell and the Mexican colors.

This is the decoration on the other side of the Mayor's Office (you can see the opposite side here ).

It puts the spotlight on the National Shield, which features an eagle over a cactus eating a snake.

Street Decoration - September Festive Decorations Series 1.1

All over the City you can find decorations celebrating the “National Festivities” like the one at this lamp post.

The bell is for the Independence that started with it as a signal to begin the rising.


A lo largo de la Ciudad pueden encontrar decoraciones celebrando las Fiestas Patrias como la que está en este poste.

La campana es por la Independencia que comenzó con ella como una señal para empezar la rebelión.

Celebrating with a Tree - City Foundation Series 1.4

This tree native to the region.

It was planted right in front of the Mayor's Office to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the City in 1996. It has held up nicely over time, hopefully it still be there for the celebration of the 500th year.

Este árbol es nativo de la región.

Fue plantado justo frente a la Alcaldía para celebrar los 400 años de la Ciudad en 1996. Se ha conservado muy bien, ojalá siga ahí para celebrar los 500.

How It Was Done - City Foundation Series 1.2

The text on this wall is a reproduction of the original Act by which the City was officially founded.

It was directed to the then King of Spain on September 20th, 1596.


El texto que aparece en esta pared es una reproducción del Acta original por la cual la Ciudad fue originalmente fundada.

Estaba dirigida al entonces Rey de España el 20 de Septiembre de 1596.

Who Enjoyed the Show the Most?? - Traditional Dances Series 2.3

I think that this kid was one of the people that enjoyed the show the most (despite my limited photo editing skills I finally was able to highlight him). He just seemed fully immersed on it the whole time. Click on the picture to see a bigger size.

In the Middle of the Action - Traditional Dances Series 2.2

Other feature of this dance by the Campeche group is the use of props. You can see in previous posts how the women carry fans and here the men use a bandana.


Esta es parte de la segunda serie sobre un evento de bailes folklóricos de todo  México. Aquí pueden ver los anteriores.

Otra característica de este baile del grupo de Campeche es el uso de accesorios. En fotos anteriores pueden ver como las mujeres traen abanicos y aquí los hombres usan pañoletas.

Enjoying the Act - Traditional Dances Series 2.1

This is the second series of the Traditional Series that started a few weeks ago.

Everybody seems interested in the act, and the dancers look like their enjoying themselves.

This is a traditional dance from the southern State of Campeche. Before starting they explained that their dances were heavily influenced by Spain. And I found a Spain (España) Ad right behind it, very fitting for the moment!


Esta es la segunda serie de los Bailes Tradicionales que comenzó hace un par de semanas.

Todos parecen disfrutar la función y los bailarines se ven que disfrutan su baile.

Este es un baile tradicional del Estado sureño de Campeche. Antes de comenzar explicaron que sus bailes estaban influenciados por España. Encontré el anuncio de España justo detrás de ellos, hasta parecía estar ahí para ellos.

Independence Day

Today is a holiday in Mexico.  No school, banks or  work (mostly).

We celebrate the start of the Independence from Spain.

It was until 11 years after that the war ended and Mexico was on its own.





Hoy es Día Festivo en México. Hoy cierran escuelas, bancos y trabajos (la mayoría).

Celebramos el inicio  de la Independencia de España.

Fué hasta 11 años después que la guerra terminó y México inició su propia nación.

¡¡VIVA MEXICO!! - The Shout of Dolores

Today at 11 pm this shout will be heard all over Mexico. The tradition is that at the main squares the President, the Governor or the Mayor (depending if the City is the Capital or not) will remember the heroes of the Mexican Independence from Spain by naming them before the crowd... and of course ending with ¡¡VIVA MEXICO!! which means something like: Hurray for Mexico!!

The celebration is the start of the Independence movement which started as a Priest (Miguel Hidalgo) shouted at the City of Dolores to begin the uprising.

But the interesting thing is that the real date is that this happened in the early hours of September 16th. In the early 1900s, then President Porfirio Diaz decided to celebrate on the 15th, but why?? Because that day was his birthday. And the tradition continues until today...



Hoy a las 11pm este grito se escuchará por todo México. La tradición es que en las plazas principales el Presidente, Gobernador o el Alcalde (dependiendo si la Ciudad es Capital o no) recordarán a los héroes de la Independencia de México ante España nombrándolos ante la multitud... y al final gritarán: ¡¡ VIVA MEXICO!!

Lo que se celebra es el inicio del movimiento de la Independencia que comenzó cuando un Cura (Miguel Hidalgo)  gritó en la Ciudad de Dolores para comenzar el movimiento.

Lo interesante es que la verdadera fecha es que esto sucedió en las primeras horas del 16 de Septiembre. A principios de los 1900s, el entonces Presidente Porfirio Díaz decidió celebrar el día 15, ¿porqué? Porque ese día era su cumpleaños. Y la tradición sigue hasta hoy...

All We Are Saying Is Give Peace a Chance

Yesterday, thousands of people took the streets all over the Country. This was to protest for the insecurity that has spiked in recent years, especially kidnappings and violent murders.

The protest was called “Let's Lighten Mexico”, organisers ask for all that wanted to be involved to dress in plain white and carry a candle, which was to be lighten at the end of the protest right in front of the Government Office in every City.

It is estimated that 100,000 people took the streets in Mexico City and around 200,000 in the whole Country.

This make news all over the World, here are some newspapers from Houston, the UK, and as far as Australia.

Ayer miles de personas salieron a las calles en todo el país. Esto para protestar contra la inseguridad que ha aumentado en los últimos años, especialmente los secuestros y asesinatos violentos.

La protesta se llamó “Iluminemos México”, los organizadores pidieron a todos quienes quisieran participar que vistieran completamente en blanco y llevaran una vela, que sería encendida al llegar a la oficina de Gobierno en cada Ciudad. Aquí está la noticia por CNN en Español.

Se estima que participaron 100,000 personas en la Ciudad de México y 200,000 personas en el todo el país.

Este evento fue noticia alrededor del Mundo, aquí hay algunos periódicos de España, Houston, Gran Bretaña, e incluso tan lejos como Australia.
