World Cup Begins!!

Today the FIFA World Cup begins in Johannesburg SA. Mexico plays the inaugural match against the South African team (called Bafana-Bafana).

Palm Craze

Starting a few years ago, every new park or park restoration has received a few palms to improve their image, although palms are not native to the City or even the region.

Here is one of them, who has survived well (at least that its what it seems) and gives a nice shadow.


Desde hace algunos años, cada parque que era renovado o construido es adornado con palmeras, sin importar que no son nativas de la Ciudad ni de la región.

Aquí está una de ellas, que ha sobrevivido bien (o al menos a sí parece) y que da buena sombra.

Get on Your Boots

U2 got a new album called “No Line On The Horizon” out yesterday, “Get On Your Boots” is the name of the first single. You can preview the songs on the right sidebar.

Not the best picture, but it was the one that fit the best. It's a small puppy who might even sleep in his owner's boot.


U2 sacó su nuevo disco ayer “No Line On The Horizon” (Sin Línea en el Horizonte) , “Get On Your Boots” (Ponte tus Botas) es el nombre del primer sencillo. Pueden escuchar parte de las canciones en la barra del lado derecho.

No es la mejor foto, pero es la que mejor queda. Es un pequeño cachorro que pudiera dormir en la bota de su dueño.

Here is another publisher's stand. In the background you can see the stand from UNAM , which is the oldest and biggest in Latin America (and maybe one of the biggest in the world). It has nearly 300,000 students.


Después de algunos días, aquí hay más fotos de lectores.

Este es el stand de otra editorial. Atrás se vé el stand de la UNAM , que es la universidad más antigua y grande de Latinoamérica (y tal vez una de las más grandes del mundo). Tiene cerca de 300,000 estudiantes.

Day of the Dead or All Saints Day 1.3

Here's another art expression of death.

The theme is a marriage (groom and bride) and love.

Notice how colorful is the image, which is another distinctive trait of this celebration: bright colors and taking flowers, candy, food and liquor to relatives' graves.

This is not meant to be scarry at all, it's meant to remind everyone to take death a little bit lighter (at least for a day) and that, at the end, is part of life.

Aquí hay otra expresión del arte del Día de Muertos.

El tema es el matrimonio (marido y mujer) y el amor.

Fíjense lo colorida de la imagen, que es otra característica de esta celebración: colores brillantes, y llevar flores, dulces, comida y licor a las tumbas de los parientes.

Esto no es hecho para asustar a nadie, más bien es para recordarle a todos que deben de tomar la muerte de forma más ligera (al menos por un día) y que, al final, es parte de la vida.

Day of the Dead or All Saints Day 1.2

This is another of the views from dead on the Day of the Dead.

Other part of the tradition is to put up altars to relatives or famous people that are no longer with us. They are decorated with photos, flowers and candy as a memorial for them.

You can even see some of these figures, such as a bride or a mariachi.



Esta es otra de las representaciones de los muertos en el día de los Muertos.

Otra parte de la tradición es la de montar altares a los familiares o famosos que ya no están con nosotros. Son decorados con fotos, flores y dulces como tributo a ellos.

Incluso pueden ver figuras como estas, como una novia o un mariachi.

In this day people takes a more relaxed view on all dead related themes, as you can see in this banner in  which  way  death is represented.


Esta es una de las tradiciones más distintivas de México: el Día de Muertos (2 de Nov).

En este día la gente tiene una visión más relajada de todo lo relacionado con la muerte, como pueden ver en la forma en que la muerte está representada en esta foto.

Happy Halloween!!

This is tradition that came from the US (and marketing).

Although is really more celebrated in the north of  Mexico than the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead, mainly because of the economic profit that comes from it.

These are made out of clay, ready to put a candle inside of them.


¡¡Feliz Noche de Brujas!!

Esta es una tradición que viene de EEUU (y de la mercadotecnia).

Aunque es realmente más festejada en el norte de México que la tradición Mexicana del Día de Muertos, principalmente por las ventas que se generan.

Estas están hechas de barro, listas para poner una vela dentro.

Found this old typewriter in a museum as part of an expo about how life was almost 100 years ago.

Encontré esta vieja máquina de escribir en un museo como parte de una exhibición de como era la forma de vivir hace 100 años.

Rocking Out!!

These rocks were put up together to form a wall in a country house.

I could not find how they did it to glue them but seemed pretty solid from the outside. Even a few plants are growing in between them.


Estas piedras las juntaron para hacer una pared en una casa de campo.

No encontré como las pegaron pero parecía muy fuerte desde afuera. Hasta algunas plantas están creciendo entre ellas.

In the Middle of the Jungle

This is a classroom building full of plants in the first floor.

Looks like a nice way to take the boring part out of concrete.


Este es un edificio de salones lleno de plantas en la parte de abajo.

Parece una buena manera de quitarle lo aburrido al concreto.

Knitting Flowers

As part of an artisan exhibition, this man was making, and selling, these flowers while people passed by.

This was the only handcrafts made this way in the expo (as far as I could see).


Como parte de una exhibición de artesanías, este hombre estaba haciendo, y vendiendo, estas flores mientras la gente pasaba por su lugar.

Estas eran las únicas manualidades hechas de esa forma en la expo (de lo que pude ver).

From the Base Up

This is the pillar of the bridge showed previously here.

You can see the plaque with the year and the names of the politics in charge when it was finished. Also the steel cables are at the very top of it.


Este es la base del pilar del puente  atirantado (más fotos aquí).

Pueden ver la placa con el año en que fue terminado y los nombres de los políticos a cargo en esa fecha. También se alcanzan a ver los cables de acero en la parte más alta.
