Cleaning up the City

This was taken a few weeks ago when the celebration of the City's Foundation was about to be held.

An employee cleaning up the images inside the Mayor's Office building , which hosts a photo exhibition.


Esta fue tomada hace algunas semanas. Fue mientras se preparaban para festejar el aniversario de la Fundación de la Ciudad .

Es un empleado limpiando las imágenes dentro del edificio de la Alcaldía , que mantiene una exposición fotográfica.

Side to Side - September Festive Decorations Series 1.4

This is the decoration on the other side of the Mayor's Office (you can see the opposite side here ).

It puts the spotlight on the National Shield, which features an eagle over a cactus eating a snake.

Aquí ponen en el centro el Escudo Nacional, el cual es un águila sobre un nopal devorando una serpiente.

Celebrating with a Tree - City Foundation Series 1.4

This tree native to the region.

It was planted right in front of the Mayor's Office to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the City in 1996. It has held up nicely over time, hopefully it still be there for the celebration of the 500th year.

Este árbol es nativo de la región.

Fue plantado justo frente a la Alcaldía para celebrar los 400 años de la Ciudad en 1996. Se ha conservado muy bien, ojalá siga ahí para celebrar los 500.

Downtown Building

You can find this office building just across the Mayor's Office.

It's called Condominio Acero, and its distinctive colors on the outside makes it shine among the others.


Pueden encontrar este edificio de oficinas frente al Palacio Municipal.

Se llama Condominio Acero, y sus colores particulares hacen que se distinga entre los demás.

100th Post

So this is the 100th post, thanks to all of you that have taken some time to visit.

This photo is from the inside of the Mayor's Office. They got murals with some of Mexico's heroes (lower tier) and most of the City's Attractions, hope you can recognize some from past posts!!

Este es el día 100, gracias a todos que se han tomado algo de tiempo para visitar.

Esta foto es de dentro de la Alcaldía. Tienen murales con algunos de los Héroes Nacionales (la parte de abajo) y la mayor parte de las Atracciones de la Ciudad, ¡¡espero puedan reconocer algunos de las entradas anteriores!! 

Monterrey's Mayor Office

This is the Mayor's Office, located at the Macroplaza.

The monument is called Homage to the Sun. It was made by Mexican artist Rufino Tamayo, who recently was in the news because someone found a 1,ooo,ooo US dollar painting made by him in a New York City Trash.

Esta es la Alcaldía de Monterrey en la Macroplaza.

El monumento se llama Homenaje al Sol. Fue hecho por el artista Mexicano Rufino Tamayo, quien estuvo recientemente en las noticias porque encontraron una pintura suya, valuada en 1,000,000 de dólares, en un basurero de Nueva York.

Make It Happen, Believe in You

This was taken right outside of the Mayor's Office.

The Ad behind the statue, above the trees, says “Make It Happen, Believe in You”, great phrase for a Bank Ad.

The bank is Banorte, which is a national bank based in Monterrey and that its the largest bank funded exclusively by Mexican investment (or so they say).

Esta foto fué tomada afuera de la Alcaldía.

El anuncio detrás de la estatua, arriba de los árboles, dice “Haz que Suceda, Cree en Tí”, una gran frase para un anuncio de bancos.

El banco es Banorte, que es un banco nacional basado en Monterrey y que es el banco más grande con capital 100% mexicano (o al menos eso dicen).

Old Town Square

This is a gazebo at the central square right at downtown San Pedro, which is one of the Cities of the metroplex.

The square is small but very well planned. It has this Church right in front of the steps (behind the camera). On one side is the Mayor's Office and the other two sides are filled with restaurants, an old fashion cantina and a few offices.

Este es un kiosko en la plaza del centro de San Pedro, que es una de las Ciudades de la zona metropolitana.

La plaza es pequeña pero muy bien planeada. Tiene esta Iglesia frente a la escalera (detrás de la camara). A un lado está la Presidencia Municipal y los otros dos lados están llenos con restaurantes, una cantina al estilo antiguo y una cuantas oficinas.

Here's Our Cathedral

This is Monterrey's Cathedral. 

Built on the spot the City founders' reserved for it in 1596, the Cathedral (as you can see it today) wasn't built until 1770, and  finished in 1899. Since it took that long to complete it, it has many architectural styles combined.

Located right in front the Grand Plaza (which is also called Macroplaza, the 3rd biggest square in the world),  in a place now surrounded by buildings, like the Contemporary Arts Museum (Marco) on one side and the Mayor's Office across the street.

Esta es la Catedral de Monterrey.

Construida en el lugar que le reservaron los fundadores de la Ciudad en 1596, la Catedral (como la pueden ver hoy) no fué construida sino hasta 1770, y terminada en 1899, Debido al tiempo que tomó completarla, combina varios estilos arquitectónicos.

Está ubicada frente a  la Macroplaza (también llamada Gran Plaza, la 3a plaza más grande del mundo), en un lugar rodeado de edificios, como el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Marco) por un lado y la Presidencia Municipal frente a ella.

A very singular protest

Came across this rally yesterday. There were about 20 - 25 people with their head in a box protesting against people watching TV heading to the Mayor's Office. 

The guy leading the rally, Mr. TV himself, was shouting things like: “You don't need to think who you'll vote for, I'll tell you” and “Don't ask what the government is doing, just watch tonight's soap opera”.

As expected, haven't seen this news on any TV channel.

Ayer me tocó ver esta protesta. Eran aproximadamente 20 - 25 personas con una caja en la cabeza protestando para que la gente no vea TV caminando rumbo a la alcaldía.

El líder de la protesta, nada menos que el Sr. TV, gritaba frases como: “No necesitan pensar por quien votar, yo les voy a decir” y  “No pregunten que hace su gobierno, sólo vean la novela hoy en la noche”.

Como era de esperarse, no he visto la nota en ningún canal de TV.
