Wear Green

Last Saturday the Mexican National Football Team played in the City. Unfortunately I haven't had Internet access to upload new pictures for over a month now, so this is the best I could get you from my previous pictures.

This is a display from when the new jersey was introduced.

Last Movie Hero

This is a Cinema that dates to the 70s, hence the name Rio 70.

It's one of the last big screen movie theaters in town, since all the other have been remodeled or constructed as movieplex, to show several movies in smaller screens.

Landmark Bridge

This is a suspension (is this the right term?) built despite much criticism. It was said at the time, some 5 years ago, that its too much of a waste of money for the service that it does.

It looks nice for a photo though.

Lesser of two evils??

Obviously no graffiti would be better, but given the choice  where would you rather have it, on a wall or on a plant??

Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame - Part 6

This is memorabilia from the Little Giants, which was the first international team to win the Little League World Series in 1957. They were a team from Monterrey and most of the then under 12 kids were born here.

They won the championship with a perfect game by Angel Macías. Here is their story by the Major League Baseball website.

A movie with their story was made, known as "Little Giants" in the box office or "How tall is a Giant?" when it was shown on TV, this movie featured the acting of the manager and some of the original players; another movie is in the works for the near future.

Taken inside the Mexican Baseball Hall of Fame, located in the Gardes of Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc (Brewery).

You can see the previous posts here.

Forza Italia!!

This is a monument to the friendship the people of Nuevo Leon (our State) and the people of Italy. Italian families settled here as early as 1650.

You can see the Italian Map ("the boot") inside Nuevo Leon's (in white) at the center of the sphere.

So since in Italy they had a holiday the past week (the Festival of the Republic on June 2nd) and today they play their first game at the Euro 2008, it seemed fitting to post it.

(Not just a) Corner Store

Just a follow up to this month's Theme Day.

This is what the corner stores have become. They're not just small family business or in the corners anymore.

Now they have premium locations on high traffic streets or avenues and are part of larger companies.

Theme Day: My corner local shop

Most traditional corner stores, like this one, are sponsored so they can save on the painting of the outside of the store and/or the racks and coolers where they keep the merchandise. In exchange they put the brands outside of the products that help them.

Every day there are fewer stores of this kind, since the big  companies are constantly expanding, with bigger budget and know-how.

Today is a Theme Day, so you can check out corner shops around the Globe in the links below.
