Time to Walk

This is a signal to allow people to cross the street in downtown.

As the time winds down the little man starts to run before turning yellow and then red.


Este es el semáforo para permitir cruzar las calles en el centro de la Ciudad.

Cuando el tiempo se termina, el dibujo empieza a correr antes de cambiar a amarillo y después rojo.

This is the entrance to the State Government Palace, which is where the main officers of the government work.

Note the flag right at the top of the entrance.


Esta es la entrada al Palacio de Gobierno del Estado, que es donde los principales oficinas del gobierno están.

Vean la bandera sobre la entrada.

With Open Hands

This is part of a painting by Mexican artist David Alfaro Siqueiros (here is his biography from Wikipedia).

Is called "Our Present Image" (painted on 1947) and is exhibited in the Museum of Contemporary Arts in Monterrey (known as MARCO).

The painting features the open hands of a faceless man. Unfortunately the photo doesn't make justice to the paintng. Its incredible stricking when seen live, specially the hands.


Esta es parte de la pintura del artista Mexicano David Alfaro Siqueiros (esta es su biografía de Wikipedia).

Se llama "Nuestra Imagen Actual" (hecha en 1947) y se exhibe en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey (MARCO).

La pintura resalta las manos abiertas de un hombre sin cara. Desgraciadamente la foto no le hace justicia a la pintura. Es impresionante cuando se está frente a ella, especialmente las manos.

Last Days of Summer (Maybe)

This was taken a couple of weeks ago in a fountain where this kid decided to refresh from the temperature of above 30 C (86 F) that we still had in September.

Finally this week the temperature started to get a little bit lower to around 23 C (74 F). Although you never know here, there might be a change of 10 C (20 F), either up or down, from a day to the next.


Esta fue tomada hace un par de semanas en una fuente donde este niño se estaba refrescando de la temperatura arriba de 30 C (86 F) que tuvimos en Septiembre.

Parece que finalmente esta semana la temperatura bajó un poco a cerca de 23 C (74 F). Aunque aquí nunca se puede estar seguro, puede haber cambio de 10 C (20 F), para arriba o abajo, de un día al siguiente.

Cleaning up the City

This was taken a few weeks ago when the celebration of the City's Foundation was about to be held.

An employee cleaning up the images inside the Mayor's Office building , which hosts a photo exhibition.


Esta fue tomada hace algunas semanas. Fue mientras se preparaban para festejar el aniversario de la Fundación de la Ciudad .

Es un empleado limpiando las imágenes dentro del edificio de la Alcaldía , que mantiene una exposición fotográfica.

It was decorated with a bell and the Mexican colors.


Esta es la entrada de la calle peatonal de Morelos.

These are the decorations under the Commerce Tower.

1810 was the year in which the fight for Independence begun. A big celebration is being planned for 2010 as it'll be the 200th anniversary of the Independence and the 100th anniversary of the Revolution.


Esta es la decoración bajo el Faro del Comercio.

En 1810 inició la lucha por la Independencia. Una gran celebración se está planeando para 2010, ya que serán 200 años de la Independencia y 100 de la Revolución.

Celebrating with a Tree - City Foundation Series 1.4

This tree native to the region.

It was planted right in front of the Mayor's Office to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the City in 1996. It has held up nicely over time, hopefully it still be there for the celebration of the 500th year.

Este árbol es nativo de la región.

Fue plantado justo frente a la Alcaldía para celebrar los 400 años de la Ciudad en 1996. Se ha conservado muy bien, ojalá siga ahí para celebrar los 500.

Happy B-Day Monterrey!!! - City Foundation Series 1.1

Monterrey was founded 412 years ago on September 20th.

This is the place where Diego de Montemayor declared the City founded. This is a sculpture dedicated to him right at the spot where everything happened, even on one side of the base says “Aqui” which means Here.

The mural behind him has a brief history of the City, from the moment the founders arrived to the big buildings and industries built some 400 years later. Click on the picture for a bigger view.


Monterrey fué fundada hace 412 años este 20 de Septiembre.

Este es el lugar donde don Diego de Montemayor declaró la Ciudad Fundada. Esta es una escultura dedicada a él, justo en el lugar donde todo sucedió; incluso en la base de la escultura dice “Aquí”.

El mural detrás es una breve historia de la Ciudad, desde el momento en que llegaron los fundadores, hasta que los grandes edificios e industrias fueron construidas cerca de 400 años después. Pueden dar click a la foto para una vista más grande.

Where He's Pointing At??

This statue is to honor Miguel Hidalgo.

He's carring a banner of the Virgin of Guadalupe in his left hand.

Who was he? What did he do to deserve a statue? You'll know tomorrow.



Esta estatua es en honor a  Miguel Hidalgo.

Tiene en su mano izquierda una bandera con la imagen de la Virgen de Guadalupe.

¿Quién fué él? ¿Qué hizo para merecer una estatua? Mañana lo sabrán.

Museum's Tower

This is the tower of the Mexican History Museum (Museo de Historia Mexicana). It's the distinctive piece in its design that makes it stand from the distance.

The Long and Winding Road

The long and winding road that leads to your door,
Will never disappear, I've seen that road before

Could the Beatles had been inspired by a road like this one? Maybe not, this only leads to the parking lot in the background... but still, this one is long and winding...

El largo y tortuoso camino que lleva a tu puerta,                                                             nunca desaparecerá, he visto el camino antes                                                               siempre me trae aquí, me trae a tu puerta

¿Se habrán inspirado los Beatles con un camino como este? Tal vez no, este sólo lleva al estacionamiento en el fondo... pero aún así, este es largo y tortuoso...

Just a Dove

What's this giant dove looking at??

Its looking to the entrance of the Contemporary Art Museum (known as MARCO). It's supposed to be a stylish dove standing by the water while checking the people coming in and out of the museum.

Behind you can see some other landmarks of the Macroplaza such as the orange Tower of Commerce, popularly known as the “Laser Ray”, because at night it sends a green laser light  around the City.



¿Qué está viendo esta paloma gigante?

Ve directamente a la entrada del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (conocido como MARCO). Se supone que es una paloma estilizada parada al lado del agua mientras observa a la gente que entra y sale del museo.

Detrás de ella pueden ver otros edificios característicos de la Macroplaza como el Faro del Comercio (en naranja) conocida comúnmente como el “Rayo Láser”, porque en las noches manda un láser verde alrededor de la Ciudad.

Downtown Building

You can find this office building just across the Mayor's Office.

It's called Condominio Acero, and its distinctive colors on the outside makes it shine among the others.


Pueden encontrar este edificio de oficinas frente al Palacio Municipal.

Se llama Condominio Acero, y sus colores particulares hacen que se distinga entre los demás.

Neptune's Fountain

This is one of the landmarks of Monterrey: Neptune's Fountain.

It's right in the heart of the Macroplaza,  right at downtown. Although the original name is “The Fountain of Life” is better known by the main sculpture in it. 

Is dedicated to water, since here it's been scarce from the foundation of the City.


Este es uno de los monumentos de Monterrey: La Fuente de Neptuno.

Es justo en el corazón de la Macroplaza, en el centro. Aunque su nombre original es “La Fuente de la Vida”  es mejor conocida por la escultura principal en ella.

Está dedicada al agua, que siempre ha sido escasa desde la fundación de la Ciudad.

Modern View

Just as if Picasso or some modern artist gave a new spin to an old building.

This is a downtown building seen thru the reflection of another one across the street.


Como si Picasso u otro artista moderno le hubiera dado una nueva vista a un edificio antigüo.

Este es un edificio en el centro visto a través del reflejo de otro enfrente.

Government Palace

This is Nuevo Leon's Government Palace, where the top secretaries and the governor have their offices.


Este es el Palacio de Gobierno de Nuevo León, donde las principales secretarías y el gobernador tienen sus oficinas.

100th Post

So this is the 100th post, thanks to all of you that have taken some time to visit.

This photo is from the inside of the Mayor's Office. They got murals with some of Mexico's heroes (lower tier) and most of the City's Attractions, hope you can recognize some from past posts!!

Este es el día 100, gracias a todos que se han tomado algo de tiempo para visitar.

Esta foto es de dentro de la Alcaldía. Tienen murales con algunos de los Héroes Nacionales (la parte de abajo) y la mayor parte de las Atracciones de la Ciudad, ¡¡espero puedan reconocer algunos de las entradas anteriores!!
